I'm Peter Vanags. Welcome to my personal, work and family web site.

I'm a software designer and musician living in Solana Beach, California. I moved here after 10 years in Crested Butte, Colorado to be close to my kids, and for a little change of scenery from the mountains and freezing cold.

Vanags means "hawk" in the Latvian language. That's why pictures of this wacky raptor are plastered everywhere. Some people say Latvian sounds a lot like English spoken backwards. It also happens to be one of the least useful languages in the world to be fluent in. Unless you live in Latvia, that is.

The sculpture on the right is by an artist named Sean Guerrero, he makes these out of old car bumpers. This is a smaller piece of his. (But it still weighs nearly 50 pounds!) Sean usually sculpts full-sized megafauna like horses, elk, moose, deer, bears, and sasquatches. Also bizarre spacecraft, but that's a whole other story.
